Memento Mori Netsuke.
Memento Mori Netsuke (Autumn 2018)
I felt the need to make a Memento Mori Netsuke, but one in a confronting way, so I decided to make it like a Hunting Trophy; a Human Skull on a Heraldic wooden shield, as is customary in the assembly of Hunting Trophies. We all can imagine the wild animals heads, hung by the walls of Mansions and Estates, to show off the Masters hunting skills. Why this way? To make people think, not only about life and death, but also about the useless killing of our Wild Life species.
Materials: Shield made of Golden Nan wood (Phoebe wood) and the skull made of Deer Antler.
The Netsuke Holes are framed in Mother of Pearl.
Marked with a Monogram of T and H in golden Urushi lacquer.
Measurements: 1.75 x 1.32 x 1.30 inch ( 4,45 x 3,35 x 3,30 cm.)
